…about the 10 Commandments
One night as I lay trying to find ever elusive sleep, a totally random thought popped into my head, “If following the Ten Commandments was all it took to get to heaven, God wouldn’t have needed to knock Saul (Paul) off his high horse!” WOW!!
There has been a lot of talk about our nation going wrong when they took prayer and the Ten Commandments out of the schools. Is that really where it all went wrong? If prayer and following the Ten Commandments were all it took for us to get to heaven, why did Jesus have to die?
If the Ten Commandments are such a deterrent to law-breaking (sin), why didn’t they work that way for the Israelites, the first recipients of those commandments? We, being sons of Adam just as those first recipients of the Law, are naturally stubborn and rebellious. How many of us as children did exactly what we were told not to do? How many have told our children, “NO!” a thousand times? It is our sinful, stubborn, spiritually dead, Adamic nature that wants to do what WE want to do when WE want! The Ten Commandments simply make this apparent and show us our inability to obey God’s Law. What we really need is a Savior, Jesus Christ!
