…more about Sovereignty
I have been a bit under the weather for the past week or so. That hasn’t stopped me from thinking. In fact, the thoughts of God’s sovereignty just wouldn’t go away - wouldn’t leave me alone. It took awhile for my thoughts to coalesce into something understandable enough to share.
Jesus told his disciples to love one another as He had loved them and that by their love for one another, the world would know they belong to Him. Is it possible that all the arguments between denominations and even within denominations over doctrines that men have decided are what God is thinking, is what is driving the world away from God?
As we fight over “free-will” vs. “election” we tend to forget the doctrine of the Sovereignty of God. In reality, God’s sovereignty is not just a doctrine. It is fact. The One who created everything that is, has unstoppable power and authority over all things - including the human will. “Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.” (Revelation 4:11). What God has willed, will come to pass!
A person who has encounter the living Jesus and whose life has been transformed by the same power that raised Jesus from the dead, is saved whether they believe they chose God or that God chose them! It is the Almighty Triune God who does the saving!
We have been commanded to spread the Gospel - the Good News. The good news is neither free-will nor election. The good news is that “while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8b). And, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13)
Can we not just say with Paul, “O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!” (Romans 11:33)
